One of our Somali clients had exceptional leave to remain in the UK and was waiting to be joined by his wife, who is both deaf and dumb, and his elderly mother, who had become stranded in Saudi Arabia
They were living in destitution, having been unable to obtain state support, whilst our client worked long hours and tried to obtain suitable accommodation for the family.
Being unaware of his rights to apply on compassionate grounds to be joined by his family, he sought our advice to try and accelerate his application for citizenship so that he could send for his family.
After a lengthy assessment period we were successful in gaining entry clearance for his wife and mother. A short while later the client and his mother met their solicitor in the street. The elderly woman hugged the lawyer and said a prayer for her.
