Debt and mental health

A client with schizophrenia has multiple debts, including some arising from her brief recruitment into a religious cult.  She felt suicidal partly because of her debts.  Her creditors were partly responsible because they had not carried out credit checks, but were not aware of her mental health problems.

We are negotiating with her creditors to arrange write-off or rescheduling of her debts, and she is feeling less anxious about her finances, although she is still on suicide watch.
