Unfair dismissal claim

A nursery manager for a local authority had been employed for over 10 years when a temporary position was advertised which would enable her to develop her skills. She applied for and was offered the position, but accepted only on condition that she could return to her former job upon completion of the 6-month contract. However, the employer reneged on the agreement and terminated her employment altogether at the end of the short-term contract.

Law For All advised the woman that she could make a claim for unfair dismissal and assisted her in doing this. The local authority gave the woman a new job and £8,000 in compensation.
